Roots and Rust reflects the quiet solitude of the Karoo where time moves slowly and the land holds onto memories. The red-roofed house weathered but standing, speaks of lives once lived, of conversations carried away by the wind. The dead tree beside it becomes both a monument and a memory, its bare branches reaching like echoes into the sky.

This painting is about more than just a landscape; it’s about what remains when life has moved on. it honours resilience in decay and the beauty in stillness. The rusted roof and dry earth may show age, but they also carry stories of belonging, loss and the enduring soul of a place once called home.
