Iris Symphony

R5000,00

In a garden of irises rendered in lavender, purple, and rose, Ingrid finds the language of colour itself; each petal catches golden light, and in their gentle sway, we feel the pulse of joy and longing intertwined. Oil on stretched canvas; 100cm x 50cm.

Description

Colour is the language Ingrid speaks most fluently, and in Iris Symphony, she composes a work that vibrates with emotional intensity. This is a celebration, a declaration, a chorus of feeling made visible.

The irises dominate the canvas with their ruffled, complex petals. Deep purples and lavenders blend seamlessly with softer mauves and pinks, while touches of crimson and burgundy add unexpected drama and depth. The yellow centres glow like small suns scattered throughout the composition, creating focal points of warmth that punctuate the cooler tones. This interplay is not subtle; it is intentional, almost orchestrated. The colours vibrate against one another, creating visual tension that mirrors the complexity of human emotion itself. Joy and melancholy exist side by side; strength and fragility are woven together.

The vertical thrust of the green stems and foliage creates rhythm and movement throughout the work. These are not merely supporting elements; they are essential to the composition’s emotional architecture, guiding the eye upward, suggesting growth and aspiration. The background, a deep, almost black, green, serves as a dramatic foil, allowing the flowers to advance toward the viewer with almost palpable presence and immediacy.

Ingrid’s technique reveals itself in the layering of colour; each petal built through successive applications of paint, allowing previous layers to show through, creating translucency and luminosity. The brushwork varies deliberately; some areas are blended smoothly into soft transitions, while others retain visible, expressive strokes that create texture and visual energy. This variation prevents the work from feeling static or overly finished; instead, it pulses with life and immediacy.

The irises themselves carry profound symbolic weight. With their complex, shifting hues, they seem to embody the full spectrum of human experience, passion and restraint, strength and vulnerability, joy and sorrow. By painting them at this monumental scale, Ingrid elevates them beyond mere decoration into the realm of profound emotional expression. She asks us to feel what she feels; to recognise in these flowers the full complexity of our own inner lives, the beauty that exists in emotional depth and authenticity.

What would it mean to allow yourself to feel as fully and as freely as these flowers bloom?
