Description
The Whale, to me represents calm and contentment. This enormous creature, bigger than any other sea animal and yet its presence is calming, majestic and assured.
The Tranquil Whale was painted with that in mind. I wanted it to bring a sense of calmness to her viewer. She is blending into the background, despite the fact that she has a natural presence of awe, she is content, humble and calming to whomever she has the pleasure of coming into contact with.
The subtle textures draw the viewer in to take a second and third look to discover little hidden secrets.
In “The Tranquil Whale” I made mostly use of pallet knives techniques. While the background is blended with my hand, and I used light touches of pastel and pencil to create some interest. For texture I made use of a gel medium to thicken the paint in some areas as well as beach sand for a bit of roughness.
