Biography of Sabelo Saart Mncwabe
Born on July 30, 1992, in the serene village of Gqumeni, near Bulwer, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Sabelo Saart Mncwabe’s artistic journey began amidst the rolling landscapes of his hometown. As a child, he and his friends would gather by the local river, molding figures of cows, goats, and horses from the rich, pliable mud, and sketching beloved cartoon characters. While many of his childhood companions eventually drifted away from these creative pursuits, Sabelo and one other friend remained dedicated to their artistic passions.
In 2015, Sabelo embraced painting as a means to express his inner world and navigate life’s complexities. His talent soon caught the attention of art enthusiasts in Underberg, leading to invaluable connections and mentorships with fellow artists. Seeking to further immerse himself in the art community, Sabelo relocated to Pietermaritzburg in 2017, where he worked as a full-time artist under the guidance of an established mentor. After several months, he returned to his roots in Bulwer, dedicating himself to refining his craft. Harnessing the power of the internet, Sabelo expanded his knowledge and techniques, continually evolving as an artist.
Sabelo’s oeuvre predominantly features oil paintings that capture the essence of South African flora and fauna. His works, such as the “Cape Flora” series, showcase his ability to encapsulate the vibrant beauty of native flowers on canvas. Beyond traditional subjects, Sabelo delves into profound themes, exploring the nourishment of the soul and the illumination brought by colors.
