Cornelia Wessels is a Pretoria-based ceramicist and horticulturist whose work intertwines her love for the natural world with a deep-seated spiritual journey. Balancing a successful career in horticulture with a prolific ceramic practice, Cornelia views her two vocations as complementary ways of shaping the earth. A Dual connection to the land. Ceramics quickly evolved from a hobby to an “addiction” and since 2024 balancing the best of 2 worlds she even open a teaching studio and ceramic shop in 2024 to help other to find their creative voice.
A Dual Connection to the Land.
Cornelia’s work is primarily crafted from stoneware clay, favouring hand-building techniques that allow for a tactile, intimate connection with the material. Her pieces often feature: nature and environmental preservation alongside reflections on her personal and spiritual growth.
She utilises oxides, stains, and glazes to bring her visions to life.
Her portfolio ranges from whimsical, “playful characters” to intricate art pieces imbued with deep personal significance.
