Francois Marius Davel, the artist behind Marius Davel Fine Art, the journey into the world of painting is one of innate passion, a creative spirit inherited from his mother. A love for drawing and painting has been a constant thread throughout his life, a talent he has nurtured with remarkable dedication. While largely self-taught, Davel has recently honed his craft and expanded his artistic horizons under the esteemed mentorship of Tertia Jacobs, whose guidance has proven immensely beneficial to his practice.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, Davel embraces a style rooted in realism, capturing his subjects with a profound sensitivity to light, texture, and form. He finds particular resonance in the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi, the beautiful and poignant idea that there is “Beauty in Imperfection.” This is masterfully explored in his captivating still life paintings of weathered pottery, where he finds immense character in the flawed and the transient.
