Vendor Biography
Mulayo Serakoana is a talented bead artist and creative facilitator blending traditional craftsmanship with modern storytelling. Proudly rooted in her Limpopo heritage and based in Mamelodi West, Pretoria, she founded SereMhani Creations, a studio celebrating Afrocentric aesthetics through handcrafted jewellery, wearable art, and community workshops.
With over ten years of experience, Mulayo’s work reflects her dedication to cultural preservation, identity, and empowerment. Her intricate beadwork often carries deep stories of womanhood, spirituality, and African strength. She’s especially admired for her figurative bead art, including a striking series on Black motherhood and divine femininity.
As a facilitator, she has led numerous workshops for children, youth, and women, using beadwork as a way to build skills, heal, and express themselves. Her sessions combine practical craft techniques with mentorship in schools, churches, wellness spaces, and informal markets.
Beyond her studio, Mulayo has been recognized as a Top 60 finalist in the SAB Kickstart competition, is a Limpopo Jewellery Incubator alumna, and a graduate of the Heavy Chef Business Programme. Her community involvement spans 15 years, including roles in the Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher, outreach coordinator, and youth mentor.
Mulayo envisions beadwork being elevated to fine art, cherished culturally and commercially, and used as a medium to connect, tell stories, and heal across generations.
