Listen to nature original oil painting

Original price was: R6000,00.Current price is: R5100,00.

Listen to Nature is the title of my newest work. During a recent trip to the bush, we had the incredible opportunity to observe hundreds of bush babies leaping from tree to tree. These lively, adorable creatures are a true joy to watch. In Afrikaans, they are called nagapie, meaning “little night monkey.” Also known as galagos, these small, nocturnal primates inhabit sub-Saharan Africa.

This striking oil painting features a lesser bush baby, alert and attentive, listening to the enchanting sounds of its environment. There’s nothing quite like experiencing the sights and sounds of wildlife at night—it’s truly something special.

Description

Listen to nature features The lesser bush baby, also known as the lesser galago, is a small, nocturnal primate belonging to the Galagidae family. These charming creatures are native to sub-Saharan Africa and are renowned for their agility, keen senses, and adorable appearance.

Physical Characteristics:
Lesser bush babies typically measure around 20 to 25 centimeters (8 to 10 inches) in body length, with a tail of similar length, which helps them balance as they leap through the trees. They have large, expressive eyes adapted for excellent night vision, soft fur that ranges in color from gray to brown, and long, powerful hind limbs for jumping.

Behavior and Diet:
They are primarily active at night, spending their evenings foraging for a diet rich in insects, fruits, leaves, and sap. Their acute hearing and keen eyesight make them adept hunters and navigators in the darkness.

Habitat:
Lesser bush babies thrive in dense woodlands, forests, and sometimes savannahs with plenty of trees and foliage to support their arboreal lifestyle.

Social Structure:
They are generally social animals, often living in small family groups. Their vocalizations—from high-pitched calls to chattering—are essential for communication and establishing territory.

Conservation Status:
While some species of galagos are relatively common, habitat destruction and deforestation threaten many populations. Conservation efforts are vital to ensure their survival in the wild.

The lesser bush baby is a captivating symbol of Africa’s nocturnal wildlife, embodying agility, curiosity, and the beauty of night-time ecosystems.
